Flight status depends on data from ADS-B radar networks and airline schedule providers. For most commercial flights on major carriers, the data is accurate within a few minutes. For regional, charter, or domestic flights on smaller airlines — especially in regions with limited ADS-B coverage — data may be delayed or missing. This is a limitation of the underlying data sources, not Vayu itself.

This can happen if the scheduled arrival time has passed and live ADS-B data is no longer available (the plane is on the ground or out of coverage). Vayu uses a combination of live position data and schedule information to determine status, and falls back to schedule-based inference when live data expires. If this causes confusion, check the airline's app or airport arrivals board for ground truth.

Enter the operating carrier's flight number, not a codeshare. For example, if you're on a United flight operated by Lufthansa, search for the Lufthansa number (LH___), not the United codeshare (UA___). Also make sure you're searching on the correct date — Vayu always looks up today's flights by default.

Vayu is designed for scheduled commercial passenger flights. Some cargo carriers are supported if they appear in the AeroDataBox schedule database. Private jets and general aviation are not supported.

The Live Activity needs to be enabled before the flight departs. Toggle "Live Status" on the flight tracking screen. iOS Live Activities require an internet connection to receive push updates and will stop if the system terminates them (usually after 8 hours). For best results, keep the app in the foreground or background — don't force-quit it.

The website provides the core flight lookup — status, route map, times, gates and delay. The app adds Live Activities (Dynamic Island and Lock Screen), push notifications for departure and landing, continuous live tracking updates, and your history and favourites. The app is the full experience.
